Lal Kitab deals mainly with remedies for bad planetary disposition. House numbers are counted from Mesha to Meena. Mesha is counted as 1st house, Rishaba as 2nd and so on. It doesnot follow parasharian concepts like kendra, trikona, ashkatavarga, dasa varga, dasa system, Gochara etc. The remedies are explained in plain and simple language.
Lal kitab, was originally published in urdu language. Boasts such effective astrological principels and remedial measures that it has rightly termed as "The Wonder Book" of Astrology. The link between palmistry and astrology has been detailed in this book. There is relation between lines of palm and astrology horoscope chart. One can draw the chart by reading the lines of palm and vice versa. The 42 divisions of human brain have been related to the different houses of a man's birth chart in such a scientific manner that the sketch of human brain reflects accurately on the lines of the palm.
The birth chart of an individual is prepared like the traditional Parashar principles, but the only important difference is that the Rashis are not considered or taken into account for predictive strology and, therefore, the digits indicating the Rashis in a traditional birth chart are scrapped.

Jaimini SutrasJaimini Sutras or Jamini Upadesha Sutras are branch of vedic astrology. This is based on ancient text given by Maharishi Jaimini in the form of sutras, that is divided into four chapter or Adhyayas. There about 1000 sutras in total. The original sutras were written in sanskrit. It was difficult to dechiper the meaning of these sutras, as they were in highly condensed form. So this leads to some mistakes in interpretation and translation. The sutras are really a gift to Jyotish. They help to accurate predictions in various aspects of life.
Jaimini is also famous for his great treatises Jaimini Bharata and Poorva Mimansa Shastra. His guru was the great Rishi Veda Vyasa, who was the son of Rishi Parashara!! Actually several of the "The Jaimini System" principles were mentioned by Parasara in his Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra. While Parasara mentioned them briefly, Jaimini expounded them fully. Hence it is known as the "Jaimini system of astrology".
In Jaimini astrology a number of different Ascendants or Lagnas are involved obviously for a lot of different purposes. There are Arudha-Lagna, Upapada-Lagna, Chandra-Lagna, Bhava-Lagna, Hora-Lagna, Ghatika-Lagna, Nisheka-Lagna, Karakamsha-Lagna and Varada-Lagna just to mention some of them. I have found some of these Lagnas to be highly useful.
In Jaimini-astrology the Dasa-systems are based on Rasis or signs and not on Nakshatras and planets like in Vimsottari Dasa etc. There are many different Dasas in Jaimini like Chara-Dasa, Sthira-Dasa, Trikona-Dasa, Shoola-Dasa, Varnada-Dasa, Navamsa-Dasa, Brahma-Dasa, Yogardha-Dasa, Drig-Dasa and Mandooka-dasa just to mention a few of them.
However, with many of these Dasas there seem to be certain conditions like planetary patterns that have to be fulfilled, meaning that many of the Dasa-systems should not be used unless their particular conditions are present in the horoscope under consideration.
Only four of these Dasa-systems seem to be for universal use for all horoscopes:
These unique sign-based Dasa-systems are the backbone of the timing of the events in Jaimini Astrology, and if used together with the transits it is possible to make fairly accurate predictions from them simply by following the predictive rules given in Jaimini Sutras combined with good judgement and practical experience.

Muhurtha - By B.V. Raman
Muhurtha is an excellent book on Electional Astrology. Muhurtha helps to determine best time to carry out auspicious things in life like marriage, naming a child, Grahapravesh or entering new house, starting education, starting a new business.
Astrology is a science which deals with Time proceeding from the Sun and all the wonderful phenomena which are embodied in that mysterious agency. Scientific investigations have now led to the conclusion that "we are faced with a cosmic determinism". Astrology "is a complete system of philosophy that requires the assistance of neither metaphysics nor physics.
If we admit that the Sun is the source of all life and its activities then it follows that in Time - which is denoted by the Sun - is embedded all forces or energies for the works of creation, protection and destruction and these energies have been very carefully unearthed by the ancient Maharshis and embodied into the formulae found so profusely in the pages of MUHURTHA, an important division of astrology.
What is meant by Muhurtha? How far is it superior to horoscopy? These are important questions which were answered in this book.
Muhurta gives valuable directions by following which the person will be enabled to remove, neutralise, counteract or overcome the evils indicated by the horoscopic chart. Horoscopy is diagnostic. It merely points out the ills but prescribes no remedies. Muhurtha is prescriptive as well as preventive. It tells how by undertaking ventures at auspicious times one can ward off the evils and ensure
Muhurtha could therefore be defined as that precious moment when the vibrations radiated by man are altered to a specific wavelength capable of entering resonance with the radiations of the same vibratory rate coming from other planets and stars.
B.V Ramans Muhurtha was the famous book in Electional Astrology.

Kalyana Varma, the famous author of 'Saravali' belonged to the 10th century AD. He was the king of a place called Vyaghrapada, believed to be somewhere in Madhya Pradesh. From the verses in this work it is obvious that he has studied the works of Parashara, Varahamihira and Yavana etc before him, and as he felt that they were too brief, he decided to elaborate the principles.
